If you’ve been watching baseball for a long time, you’ve probably noticed that there seem to be a TON of broken bats in the last 5 years or so. I remember Kirk Gibson talking about this back when he still did color commentary for Fox Sports Detroit. Anyway, Yahoo! has a great article about the subject.
Unfortuately, I think Jeff Passan hits the nail on the head with this piece. He says that “some is gong to die..” soon at a game. There has been talk of making the backstop nets bigger at MLB stadiums – as the NHL has done. Sometimes in our society, however, the almighty dollar is worth more than a human life. I’m afriad it will take a serious injury or death for the league to make a change – either to ash bats or make bigger backstops.
So far, Nate Robertson is more than holding his own against KC. We’ll see how this on ends in a bit. I’ve just caught some glimpses of Kauffman Stadium’s renovations on MLB TV and that new scoreboard is huge – almost to the point of being obnoxious, not unlike those “ribbon” style boards that were added to Comerica last summer.
What do you think?
